Horseshoe Bend (HSB) is a 35 acre (14.2 hectare) facility located along
the Oconee River, just minutes from campus. HSB is a series of old fields,
successional forests, experimental areas, nature trails, and agroecosystem
plots. Research into plant and animal ecology, no-till agriculture,
stress ecology, animal behavior has been conducted since 1965. HSB has
continuing research projects in soil ecology and sustainable agriculture
and offers researchers the opportunity to conduct field experiments
at a convenient and well characterized research site. Two multi-use
buildings for class use, meetings and community service functions are
located on site.
