Conservation biology
Managed and natural ecosystems
Plant-animal interactions
Forest regeneration
Invasive species
Research Projects
Sustainable agriculture and natural resources management (Ecuador); ecological mechanisms of land restoration; ecology of invasive species; watershed management. I graduated from the population biology program at the University of Chicago with Dan Janzen as my major advisor. In recent years my research interests have focused on the mechanisms of ecological restoration in the context of conservation ecology and on watershed management. I work in the tropics and in the southeastern U.S. Other interests include various kinds of plant-herbivore interactions, community ecology of ants, and conservation policy.
