Research Projects/Service Projects
Georgia GAP/Southeast GAP
Gap analysis is a scientific method for identifying the degree to which native animal species and natural communities are represented in our present-day mix of conservation lands. Those species and communities not adequately represented in the existing network of conservation lands constitute conservation "gaps." The purpose of the Gap Analysis Program (GAP) is to provide broad geographic information on the status of ordinary species.

Georgia Land Use Trends
As Georgia's population and economy grow, the demand for land is increasing rapidly. Much of the land use change is from forest and agriculture to urban uses. Often, this rapid growth contributes to sprawl, with its attendant environmental and economic impacts. The mission of the Georgia Land Use Trends (GLUT) Project is to track and analyze the changes in Georgia's land use from the early 1970's to the present, providing valuable information for planners, policy makers, and researchers.

Etowah HCP
The Etowah Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) strives to enhance the Etowah watershed through protection of aquatic species and water resources, ensuring continued economic prosperity and quality of life for future generations.

Alliance for Quality Growth
The Alliance for Quality Growth (AQG) was formed to increase awareness and understanding among Georgia policymakers, planners, developers, and the general public of the wide variety of planning tools available for promoting efficient land use in urban and suburban areas.

Historic Vegetation Mapping Project
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is interested in utilizing information found in historic landlot maps. The information will be used to assess general historic vegetation patterns in Georgia as a component of the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy.

Land Conservation Partnership
The Council is charged with overseeing the development of the state's first comprehensive, statewide land conservation plan.
