Prospective Student Information

Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your inquiry about graduate work in the Ecology doctorate degree program at The University of Georgia. Ecology is strong at The University of Georgia, and you will notice that we have a wide variety of course offerings from our diverse faculty. We attempt to structure the program of study to meet the needs of the individual student. For admission to the M.S. or Ph.D. program, you should have a bachelor's or master's degree in an area of biological science, GRE scores (verbal and quantitative) in excess of 1100 and, of course, good grades, and three letters of recommendation.  Generally, students are only admitted in the Fall of each academic year.

For many students, financial aid (awarded in April prior to the beginning Fall semester) is an important consideration for entering a graduate program. The annual competition for student stipend (such as University assistantships and teaching assistantships) takes place each February. The priority deadline for applying for admission is January 1. Due to the volume of applications received, it is best to have your application and all supporting materials submitted to both the Graduate School and department no later than January 1. We cannot guarantee that the Admissions Committee will review your application if all documents are not received in time for competition.

Finally, if you intend to make formal application for either the MS or Ph.D. degree programs in Ecology, you should submit additional information to the Ecology Program Office, such as background and interest form, statement of purpose, curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation. All other supporting material, such as application, application fee, transcripts (from each institution attended) and GRE scores should be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions in the Graduate School

We strongly encourage applicants to contact faculty members of the same prime ecological research by e-mail. Prior to admission we must identify a faculty member who might serve as your major professor.

If we can provide additional information, please let contact us.

Sincerely,

Ecology Program Office
Odum School of Ecology
