Morgan Walker - Summer 2012

Morgan spent the summer on Skidaway Island working under Dr. Byers on several different experiments pertaining to marine ecology. The main study is examining how different environmental stressors, such as predation and air exposure, will affect both the prevalence and intensity of multiple oyster diseases, ranging from MSX to Dermo. As of Sepetmber 2012, this experiment is still out in the field, but the results are to be gathered before the end of the year and will hopefully provide a great deal of information regarding oyster disease. Morgan also participated in an array of other projects, which examined bonnet head predation, mud crabs infected by Loxothylacus panopeus, blue crab predation, and the invasive seaweed Gracilaria vermiculophylla.
