Alumna describes being “stuck in the field” by COVID-19 lockdown

Julie Tierney, MS ’17, was one of thousands of American scientists stranded overseas when travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly went into effect. Tierney, now a doctoral student at Princeton University, was conducting field work in Peru when that country closed its borders on March 16. She and other American researchers were finally evacuated on April 4. She was one of several scientists who shared their stories with NBC News.
