Michael Paul received his MSc (1994) in Zoology and PhD (1999) in Ecology from the University of Georgia. He manages the Ecological Sciences group at Tetra Tech Inc., where he works as an aquatic ecologist. For more than 25 years, his work has focused on applying ecological theory and data analysis to support state and federal water regulatory decision-making and environmental research in the US. He has provided technical support in assessment and water quality standards development for more than 45 states, tribes, and federal government agencies and has taught and authored papers, book chapters and guidance on a variety of topics related to assessment, analysis, and application of ecological data for water quality regulatory applications. He lives in Carrboro, NC with Katherine Baer (1996 MSc in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development), his daughter Harper Baer, 3 cats, a dog, his road bike, a guitar, and limited regrets.
